The One with Sarah.Jane.Burt-Content Strategist

The One with Sarah.Jane.Burt-Content Strategist

April 2, 2021

In this episode Amy and Kaycee are welcoming Sarah Jane Burt to the podcast. Sarah is a copywriter and content strategist that works with Creatives and Coaches. She helps her clients create a social media strategy on Instagram to convert followers into clients. So grab a cup of coffee, settle in...it's gonna be a good one!!

Episode Summary:

Episode Five welcomes guest Sarah Jane Burt, Copywriter and Content Strategist to help Kaycee and Amy learn more about using Instagram in their business. Sarah has ten years of experience turning fans into clients with companies as big as IBM and as small as your local chiropractor. However her heart lies with helping creatives and coaches develop a strategy to communicate their value.

Sarah finds that the most common pain point on Instagram for Creative service providers is that they are not making sales, but don’t want to sound salesy. For Product Sellers, they struggle with feeling like every post is selling a product. Her goal is to help both clients find the balance between adding value for their followers and selling, because both clients need relationship building content as well as something to sell. Building relationships with real authentic followers will create this balance, but it takes time.

Kaycee and Amy ask Sarah about posting frequency, hashtags, and writing a solid call to action. As with other social media platforms, the key with Instagram is being consistent. Post consistently whether that is two times a day or two times a week. Use all 30 hashtags because YOU choose what works for your post. Be specific with your CTA by doing the work for them. The more you post the more visible you are but being consistent in providing valuable content is the most important factor. Follow the people that you want to engage with and develop those relationships.

Sarah goes on to explain Reels and Stories. Reels are awesome for reaching new people. Stories are great for getting in front of people every day. So a balance of both is beneficial. You have to ask yourself what is your goal? Increasing visibility or engaging your community.

Sarah wraps up the session by talking about three Apps she loves and her workshops for April: “How to Write Social Captions that Don’t Suck” and another workshop on Hashtags.

Highlights:

  • Amy introduces Sarah Jane Burt and how they met
  • Sarah is a Copywriter and Content Strategist for Creatives and Coaches
  • She helps service providers and product sellers develop a strategy for their content
  • Sarah also writes Social Captions for people
  • Most common IG pain point
  • Find balance between asking for the sale and providing value
  • Consistency is key for posting to IG
  • Hashtags should you use all 30 or use less?
  • Be specific with your actions in your call to action (CTA)
  • The less work for your audience, the better
  • Follow the people that you want to follow you
  • Interacting with people to build a relationship takes time
  • Top 3 apps for IG
  • Workshops for April
  • Reels or Stories?

The One About Creative Marketing

Welcome to Episode 4 of the “Our Creative Hustle Podcast” where we find  Kaycee Lemongello of Kaycee Lemondrop, and Amy Ford from Bloom and Grow Media look back at their business journeys and discuss what marketing platforms they started with and have used in building their businesses...Let's listen in!

Episode Summary:

Both Amy and Kaycee started using Facebook and Instagram for their businesses before using Pinterest. While they loved and had personal Pinterest accounts, Facebook and Instagram were good starting points for their businesses because they were free and easy to use. They both incorporated Pinterest along their journey and have been all in ever since!

Donna from Texas asked, “Where do I start marketing my Etsy shop?” Kaycee’s first response was asking, “Who is your demographic?” Once you know that, you are able to choose a marketing platform that fits your needs. She also points out that for sellers, your product is your content. Restructure your content so that it can be used across your marketing platforms, because people buy from people, not from logos. Amy has a purpose for each marketing platform she uses. She goes on to mention that you do not need to overwhelm yourself using every platform in the beginning. Both Amy and Kaycee discuss the courses that have guided them as they have built their businesses. They wrap up today’s podcast by giving advice on how to find the right course or coach for you.

Highlights:

  • where we started with marketing on social
  • why we love Pinterest
  • listener sent and email to ask where she should start marketing with her Etsy shop
  • make sure you know where your audience is and focus on one platform
  • you don't need to be on all the social platforms
  • what courses or marketers to take or follow to learn more social marketing tips
  • make sure you do your homework before investing in coaching or a course

The One About Shopify vs Etsy

The One About Shopify vs Etsy

March 12, 2021

Episode Summary:

In episode two of “Our Creative Hustle Podcast,” our hosts Kaycee Lemongello of Kaycee Lemondrop and Amy Ford from Bloom and Grow Media, break down Etsy and Shopify ECommerce stores. Tune in to hear their thoughts on working with these platforms.

Shopify is an e-commerce platform that Kaycee feels is a hidden gem many people do not think to use. It is basically a website you can sell products from. Shopify is easy and affordable to design and set up to meet the needs of your business. As the owner of your Shopify site, you can make it as simple or elaborate as you like. YouTube videos are available to guide you through the setup process or you can reach out to the Shopify platform for help. As your business grows, you can add more categories, flows, or even a blog to expand your Shopify site. Email and discount pop-ups are also available so you can build your email list and give your customers rewards for shopping with you. If a Shopify site sounds like a good fit for you, sign up for the blog which provides information on trends of what is selling and popular.

Etsy is also an e-commerce platform that is affordable, user-friendly, and perfect for starting out. Sellers often begin their e-commerce experience on Etsy and then expand to a site like Shopify, ultimately keeping both sites for selling their products. This actually works out well because Etsy handles billing, fees, and review prompts for you. The more frequently you add products to your shop, the higher up on the list you are, making your products more visible. Consistency is key to continue developing products and making them available to customers. In time, your system for getting each product listed will become second nature. Knowing your customers and going the extra mile in packaging and follow-ups will go a long way in repeat sales. A little thank you email inviting them to sign up for email updates and sales is a great personal touch, while honoring the terms and conditions of Etsy. If you think an Etsy shop is a good way to see if e-commerce is for you, sign up for the blog which discusses tips and tricks for your shop.

Highlights:

  • Etsy vs Shopify
  • Amy and Kaycee both have clients that use these platforms
  • Shopify is a hidden gem many people don’t think to use
  • Etsy is a platform Kaycee really loves
  • Trends tool on Pinterest is helpful for Etsy Sellers and for Shopify sellers as well
  • Both Shopify and Etsy blogs are a great place to start if you’re thinking about opening a shop
  • Do your research, make that pros/cons list, read those reviews
